Ek Pyaar Ka Tappa

Marya, a filmmaker and tabla student, sets out to get a custom tabla set made. Her journey takes her to Aftab Hussain, a skilled tabla maker in Karachi, whose small yet vibrant shop, Sufi Music Palace, has kept the tradition of tabla-making alive for decades. As Aftab crafts the instrument, the two bond over their love for music. Their interactions evolve from a formal exchange into a heartfelt connection built on a shared love for music. Through gup-shup over chai and conversations, the film touches on the rich history of tabla-making, Aftab’s dedication to his craft, and the fading yet resilient musical traditions embedded in his workshop. This is more than a documentary about an instrument; it is about the relationship between a musician and an instrument maker. It is about two very different people from different backgrounds who are, in essence, the same drops of the ocean and know how to appreciate music. This film paints a picture of a craftsman whose work has made it possible for a filmmaker to pursue her passion–music.
